After attending this weekends Symposium, Justin Collins and I decided to stick around Eastern NC for a couple days, to see if anything was out yet.  Needless to say, it was still a little early. Although sunny, ambient air temperature didn't exceed low sixties, wind was also slightly in excess of that desired for ideal herping conditions. However we did see a couple things. I would say at least fifty or more yellow bellied turtles, green anoles were already plentiful, we found several ground skinks under cover aswell as a number of the local P. glutinosis complex salamanders. As far as snakes go we found one rough earth snake (a lifer for me), and a couple black racers. Almost an adequate consolation for the shortage of herps was an abundance of different birds of prey.
